Websites and blogs specialising in practice

Pete Cook’s Podcasts – British Jazz Musician Pete Cook’s blog features an excellent series of short video podcasts that make perfect sense – click here.

Jazz Advice – this is a highly enforced and useful resource. I recommend it to everyone – click here.

The Practice of Practice – excellent blog/website about practice by Jonathan Harnum – click here.
Highly informed by research, Jonathan writes… “A lot of research and attention has been given lately to how world-class experts come to be so accomplished. Books like Talent is Overrated, and Malcolm Gladwell’s recent hit, Outliers also mentions some ideas about practice, though they are both short on practical advice. This blog is a forum for my own synthesis of this and other research about expertise and learning, but more specifically, how to practice in the best way possible”.

How To Practice – the website related to the above – click here.

The Musicians Way – excellent site about practice, related to the recent publication “The Musician’s Way” – click here. Check out this article about memorisation – click here.

Thomas West Music – another excellent site, check out the blog – click here.

Zen Guitar – link to website about Philip Sudo’s magnificent book about practice. Zen Guitar is for all musicians and a book that I most often recommend to students – click here.

  1. Hi Simon,

I was recently researching some online jazz learning resources for an article I was writing and came across this page on your site:

I found it very useful, but there are a few dead links on the site:

If you do update the site, I’d really appreciate it if you would consider including a link to our jazz-blog. We offer over 150 free jazz piano lessons and several even more in-depth training courses.

The subject is very similar and I can assure you these links are working :)

I think your visitors would also appreciate it. Here’s the link if you’re interested:

    Thank you for your time,
